Running at Disney World – New Fall Race for 2010Disney Adds Inaugural Wine & Dine Half Marathon to Racing Schedule
Walt Disney World adds the Inaugural Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon to its series of endurance events. The October race coincides with the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.
Disney’s Wide World of Sports announced the addition of the new Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon to its series of events taking place on Walt Disney World. This endurance event, a nighttime race, will feature a new course that travels through the theme parks and ends in Epcot. Scheduled to take place on Oct. 1-2, 2010, the Inaugural Disney Wine & Dine race will coincide with Epcot’s popular International Food and Wine Festival. The Wine & Dine will offer the option for participants to complete the half marathon distance solo or as part of a two-person relay. As with Disney’s January marathon weekend, the weekend events will include a Health & Fitness Expo, family 5K fun run, and kids’ races. Participants and their traveling parties will be eligible to attend an exclusive after-hours party at the festival. Wine & Dine Replaces Shorter Disney RacesThe half marathon replaces two other Disney races of shorter distances. The 10K Race for the Taste, a morning event, just finished its final year on Oct. 11, 2009. It featured a course that ran through Disney’s Hollywood Studios and concluded in Epcot. As with the new half marathon, that race promoted the Food and Wine Festival. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K, a nighttime race, takes participants through Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Its after-hours party for participants and race spectators will be held inside the latter park. The 13K and its 5K companion course, both of which are full, are scheduled to be held for the last time on Oct. 24, 2009. Running and Disney’s Endurance Sports SeriesThe Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon joins several other running events held on Walt Disney World property and held throughout the year. The largest is the January marathon weekend, which features three major events: a half marathon on Saturday, a full marathon on Sunday, and the Goofy Race and a Half, in which participants complete both the half and full marathons. Disney Endurance Sports Series offers events throughout the year, providing recreational athletes with opportunities to compete on Disney property. In addition to running and walking races, other events include a Muddy Buddy trail and mountain bike challenge; Expedition Everest Challenge, a 5K urban-adventure race that features a scavenger hunt; duathlons; and triathlons of varying distances, including a full Ironman. Disneyland also hosts a September half marathon. Registration and Website Information for Wine and Dine Half MarathonRegistration for the Inaugural Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon opens Nov. 16, 2009 on Disney's Wide World of Sports website. Pacing requirements are 16-minute miles or faster, and traditionally Disney endurance events have been friendly to runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes.
