Starting to run can sometimes be a challenge, but there are a few things that can help get a beginner running and allow them to enjoy jogging fitness.
As the benefits of healthy living become more and more clear, the streets have filled with runners. Each day, many take to the roads around their homes for fitness, weight loss and happiness. Despite the obvious benefits, it can sometimes be hard for the beginner to start running. Once a running habit is built up, it is easier to keep, but getting there is the hard part. To ensure success with running and reap the benefits of jogging fitness, any aspiring pavement pounder should create a running training program, find a pair of good running shoes and build it all up slowly. How to Start RunningQuite possibly the largest obstacle toward beginning a running program is simply getting out for those first few runs. There can sometimes be a block here as without any level of jogging fitness, running can be painful and unpleasant. Fortunately, this is often shortlived and the key to passing it is to begin with walking, then move up to walking running and then finally full running. Starting at a walking pace does two things. Firstly, it allows the athlete to build up the habit of getting outside for exercise without making it too difficult. Secondly, it works on the muscles that will eventually be used for running. This is the beginnings of a running training program and all it takes is one or two walks a week. After sticking with this program for a short while, the beginning running program can be improved to include walking running. This refers to the act of using both walking and running in the same exercise period. An athelete can start walking, run for a period, then move back to walking. This will build on the habit of getting exercise as well as gradually build the running muscles. Finally the running training program will move into running. Here, the intention is to make it outside for a full run, without stopping. Distances and times can be tweaked depending on the person's level of fitness. Again, a gradual increase in difficultly is best for muscle development and habit building. Running and Walking ShoesInformation on how to start running will be useless if the person running is uncomfortable. Of course, the feet are our most important tools when running and walking so comfort and support is key. It is the worth the time and money to invest in a pair of shoes that are designed for the feet that will be wearing them. One way of making a comittment to a running training program is to make the trip to a running store, be tested and choose a pair that has the appropriate level of support. Not only will this decrease pain when running, but a beginning running program can be jumpstarted by the thought that there is money invested! Whether walking, running or both, a great pair of shoes can make the entire activity far more enjoyable. The Correct PaceStarting to run is something that most people can do, without too much money, time or trouble. There are few barriers toward getting outside to run, and most of them are held within the mind. However, creating a running training program that starts slow and builds from there is a sure-fire way to get someone running and have them enjoying their newfound jogging fitness.
