New Running SongsA Playlist to Speed Up Running Workouts
Finding new songs to keep runs interesting is an ongoing quest. Trying these uncommon songs can breathe new life into workouts.
It’s common knowledge that listening to just the right tunes can transform a workout experience. An hour of running can seem like mere minutes if you’re swept away with great music. With the perfect rhythm and lyrics, a runner can go from dragging her feet, to getting lost in a world of bliss. Although pop, rock, and metal seem to be the most common genres of running songs, there are gems hidden in places that do not fit these categories. Often overlooked, theme songs from children’s movies are truly an excellent resource. Full of personality and quirky sounds, they’re quick to stir folks up. Keep an open mind and ear to the following suggestions. ShrekNearly every song on this album can get anyone moving with lightness and speed. It’s full of characters, laughs, and well done remakes. Everything from Livin’ La Vida Loca by Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas to Holding Out for a Hero by Jennifer Saunders is worth a spot on every runner's playlist. AnnieAn oldie, but a great classic, Annie tunes can send listeners back in time a couple of decades. It’s a Hard Knock Life by Aileen Quinn has a notable beat, much like marching tunes, with a goofy melody and lyrics begging to be sung along to. Feet will be flying in no time. Mary PoppinsAlthough it must appear to be a misprint, Mary Poppins belongs on this playlist. Chim Chim Cher-ee by Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews is a perfect verbal reminder to keep you running on pace. By thinking back on Van Dyke and his cohorts’ high rooftop groove, a dull run can be transformed into a dance. Flushed AwayA relatively new movie, many of the songs on this album come to life with some incredibly cute characters. The songs are a blast from the past. Envisioning the adorable slugs singing Tina Turner’s Proud Mary or Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy can widen a smile right along with a stride.
